Sidereal day is the time taken by Earth to rotate once around any star (other than Sun) on its axis or the time difference between successive transits of the equinox. The sidereal day is 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.091 seconds, which is less than time measured for one rotation around the Sun (solar day).
